I am fishing with Jeremy on the Campbell River. We are fishing for pink salmon.
We caught our personal limit in about two hours. We got four each.
We bought a large cutting board to go over the kitchen sink. Jeremy likes it.
The fish guts go to Point Holmes, at the water's edge. The seagulls love it.
The seagulls are not too skinny here.
Friday, August 2, 2024.
The pink salmon soaked all night, and once they were wiped and rested on the counter, they went to the smoker.
This is what seven pink salmon look like when turned into smoked salmon.
There were only seven salmons because one of them had too many white spots (parasites) in the meat to keep.
Once again, they are very good.
Natasha came back from daycare with a treat from mom.
She is wearing her bathing suit because, when it is hot outside, the daycare has pools for the kids to play in and cool off in.
Once home, the fun continues with her pool.
Jeremy is back to work today.
Saturday, August 3, 2024.
Natasha has a busy morning. She goes to a friend's birthday party.
It is Saturday, and it is sleepover time.
Natasha is very spoiled for snacks.
Sunday, August 4, 2024.
Audrey, Kristin's mom, arrives this morning from Regina.
Natasha made a sign for her grandma.
Natasha and Audrey are very happy to see each other.
Natasha is getting better at colouring.
After supper, we took Audrey to check out the blackberry.
In a week or two, they should be ready for picking.
Monday, August 5, 2024
It is warm; time to head to the beach with Grandma.
Audrey has invited us all to the restaurant for supper.
You have to come prepared when you go to a restaurant with a kid.
We are in an Irish pub.
The food was really good. On top of that, since it is Happy Hour, we get a 10% discount. Because we are military, we get another
20% off.
I forgot that today is a holiday in British Columbia.
Tuesday, August 6, 2024.
Natasha's daycare is closed for the week. Kristin is still taking her
online course at home.
We are looking after Natasha in the trailer. Audrey is gone for a few days near Victoria to visit friends.
Natasha loves dresses.
Grand-maman goes to the playground with Natasha.
They went to the exercise ground near the base gym.
To finish the day, a fire and a good movie on the iPad.
Wednesday, August 7, 2024.
Kristin has an exam this morning. We stay away from the house to not disturb her during the exam.
Natasha does not seem to notice.
We go to Seal Bay Nature Park for a hike.
Last year, we hiked the same trail. It is Melda's Marsh.
Natasha even has her own walking stick.
Natasha is a hawkeye. She sees stuff before we even see it, like this banana slug.
Seal Bay Nature Park is a second growth forest. The last cut took place in 1930.
We have to have fun!
It looks like it has a fur coat.
A snack for everyone at the break.
Natasha is a good hiker.
She asked for this photo.
This is one happy but tired little girl.
Back at home, we asked Kristin how her exam was. She answered a little hard, but I got 100%.
A little devil's face. Hihihi.
Thursday, August 8, 2024.
Kristin only has two days left on her course.
This is a playground morning for us.
A few of the overhead structures on the sand boxes are old and not as safe as they should be.
Some military members are fixing them for the kids.
We are having Coho salmon for supper. Audrey is back from visiting her friends near Victoria.
Natasha is sleeping in the trailer again tonight.
Friday, August 9, 2024.
Surprise ! Jeremy comes in to have breakfast with us.
Kristin has her last exam this morning. To not disturb her, we spent the morning away from the house.
Natasha plays in the pool, even when it has ice in it!
Hum! This boat is a little too big for the pool, I think.
Jeremy went to Mount Washington with some friends to do some downhill mountain biking.
Audrey is back from visiting more friends. To celebrate Kristin's end, of course, we have Chinese takeout for supper.
The Ladies! Kristin's mom, Audrey (back). Kristin's mother-in-law, Michele. Mommy, Kristin, and the last one, Natasha.
And the crazy one!
Saturday, August 10, 2024.
It was decided to go down the Puntledge River in tubes.
We are going down the short stretch of the river because it is Natasha's first time on the river in a tube.
It will be less than 1.5 km. The first 100 meters are fast-moving water, but the rest are slow-moving water.
We are leaving from the Condensory Bridge and coming out at Lewis Park.
Here we are at the base of the bridge. You can see the small rapids down the river.
And off we go!
The first set of "rapids" is right at the start. After that, it is calm water.
Michele was waiting for us at Lewis Park.
Here we come! We even saw a seal swim by.
Happy tubers!
The exit points are well made.
Natasha liked her experience on the tube. She now wants to do it for the long stretch of river.
Natasha is back in the trailer tonight. Because it is Saturday, it is a sleepover night with movies and junk food.
Natasha loves those moments.
Kristin was supposed to fly out to Borden tomorrow morning early, but
her flight got moved to later in the week because the hail storm in
Calgary damaged many Westjet's airplanes. Her course starts Monday
morning at Borden, Ontario!
She managed to get a flight earlier, like tonight, and get to Toronto tomorrow morning early.
Shortly after supper, Kristin left us to catch her flight. Have a safe trip, Kristin.
Good luck on your course. See you in three weeks.
Sunday, August 11, 2024.
A photo of the stuffy Kristin is carrying. Natasha gave her the stuffy to keep her safe.
They are in Toronto early in the morning.
Natasha has a lazy morning in the trailer.
It is not too hot outside; time to wash the trailer.
I managed to wash the roof, awning, right side, back, and rear before supper.
The water was cold, and the wind made it even colder.
The pink salmon are jumping near Salmon Point.
After supper, we head there to check it out and cast a few lines in the water.
The pink salmon schools are swimming along the shore.
Natasha wanted to fish but changed her mind once at the beach.
She prefers to be with grand-maman.
Jeremy is getting the fishing rods ready.
This is not a good collage of two photos, but it is what it is.
We saw many fishermen along the beach.
Jeremy caught a pink salmon after a few minutes of fishing.
Natasha is keeping an eye on the salmon.
Jeremy is really good at filleting fish.
We had a good week.
Monday, August 12, 2024
Jeremy is back to work for two days. This time he is early and starts at 4.30 am.
Natasha is back at daycare today. She is very happy to see her friends and teachers.
Tuesday, August 13, 2024.
When Jeremy works early, we take Natasha with us to sleep. It makes it easy for all of us.
She is funny in the morning. She is pretending she is asleep right now!
She is ready for daycare.
We are back at the RV dealership to review/update on selling our MH. It
seems everything is selling around our MH, but not our MH. We think
they priced it too high to help move other RVs out. We will think about
our next move over the next few days.
One option is to sell our trailer and take the MH back and use it, the
other is to leave it at the dealership and sell it at a much lower
price.
When Natasha got back from daycare, she tried to bury her dad under toys.
And then she cuddles him.
Jeremy is off for the next two days. He and Natasha are having a campout night in the living room.
She really loves those evenings.
Wednesday, August 14, 2024.
Jeremy and I are out fishing at Salmon Point. We are fishing from the shore.
We both caught two pink salmon each.
When Jeremy was filleting the salmon, one of them had white little
balls in the meat. They are parasites. They say it is OK to eat if the
fish is well cooked. No! Not for us, to the garbage can they go. The
other three are good.
We are going back fishing tomorrow and Friday, and we will smoke them.
Thursday, August 15, 2024.
We are back at Salmon Point this morning. The pink salmons are at the
mouth of the river this time. We have to walk a little more than 2
kilometres to get there. Jeremy caught three pink salmon, and I lost
one, including the lure.
The beach is where we fish.
The three salmon from yesterday and the three from today.
Jeremy cut them up into squares, and tomorrow morning I will put them in a brine solution made out of brown sugar and Kosher.
Once Jeremy is done filleting the salmon, I take the carcasses to Point Holmes and throw them in the ocean.
Jeremy is spying on me with the webcam from the Point Holmes website.
Yes, it is me!
Benoit had a job interview today. He said it went well. More to follow.
