The campers at the Parry Sound's Walmart.
Once we hit highway 400, we noticed that many trees have changed
colour! Just like in the fall, but we are only August 1.
The drought must have something to do with this.
The Parry Sound area is a boater's paradise.
We drive across Toronto at over 90 km/h. I prefer crossing
Toronto over Montréal any day. Montréal is a nightmare at best.
Our campground is just 10 kilometer east of Brighton.
Our
campground.
We got here a day early, but luck is with us. The person who owns
this site just left 45 minutes ago. We are in the "permanent"
section of the campground. The reason we have this site is that
the owner had to go home and will not be back for the rest of the
summer.
The street we are on is very quiet. We are sheltered form the
wind, but the sun is hitting under the awning by late afternoon and it
is hot.
Thursday August 2, 2012
Today is our first appointment with the dentist.
On our way to the dentist we stopped and wash the car. It really
needed it after being towed behind the motorhome
It was kind of weird at the dentist. The lady who is doing our
initial and cleaning got a call from the hospital because her mom has
been sick and is just about to pass away. She left right
away. Things kind of got mixed up at the dentist. Our
cleaning will take place next week because of this. It is not a
problem after all, family comes first.
Back at the motorhome, I continue my preventive maintenance in the
motorhome. I check the hot water tank from the inside. All
is good.
I remove the drawers to have a look at what is located behind?
Surprise!
Here is what I found behind the drawers.
We took a nice bike ride later on in the afternoon.
At the entrance of the campground they have a few travel trailers on
display and you can visit them. We did!
Another great day and it is very hot, in the low 30s.
Friday August 3, 2012
Yesterday we bought a new BBQ. The one we were using in BC can
only be used with a 20 lbs propane tank. I do not want to log
around a 20 lbs propane tank in the basement of the motorhome. I
prefer the 1 lbs tank and the new BBQ used those.
Some of the sights from the campground.
Another hot day today.
Saturday, Sunday August 4 and 5, 2012
The village of Consecon has a small festival today. We went, but
not much there.
But we did a few garages sales.
When we were stationed in Trenton between 1989 and 1997, the Prince
Edward County was mostly farms and the Presqu'ile Provincial
Park. Now it is a tourist destination with more than 30 wineries,
the small towns are booming, many B&B. Tourism is alive and
thriving here.
I prefer farm eggs over store bought eggs.
Yes, it is +34.
Back home we head to the pool. We had a great dinner with some
corn on the cob cooked on the BBQ, Hummm!
Sunday starts very hot, but by afternoon the rain came. I washed
the motorhome during the rain. It helped the rinsing. We
are not supposed to wash cars or trailers/motorhomes, but I had to do
it to remove the dead bugs from the front of the motorhome. To
help rinse off I think I did good by using the rain! Good excuse?
Monday August 6, 2012
This morning we went to Odette's place to help her pack some books for
her move (and ours too).
Let me explain, our current "residence" is with Odette. Odette
just finish her college course in instrumentation and the best place to
find a job in her field is in the Toronto area. So Odette and
Onyx are moving to East York with Odette's son Alix. Since they
move, we have to move too. For us it is very easy, just changes
of address since we do not actually live with them.
Back at home, we spend the afternoon reading and a short dip in the
pool.
BBQ sausages for dinner and I keep on reading during the cooking.
Tuesday August 7, 2012
Back at the dentist for our cleaning and Michèle's replacement of 3
upper front teeth fillings.
A good thing we have dental coverage.
I have to take the air conditioning fan off and find a used or new one
so we can have AC again while we are driving the motorhome.
First stop is at the scrap yard. Did not find one like ours.
On our way back home, we stopped at this place to see if they have one.
They do not have one in stock, but they will search for one.
Less than an hour later they call and they have found one very similar
to the one we have. We should have the new one tomorrow.
More to follow.
Wednesday, Thursday, August 8 and 9, 2012
A pretty busy day ahead of us.
We are up by 6 am. We are on our way to get our blood work done,
it opens at 7 am.
Pretty sunrise.
We forgot to take photos of the place where we had our blood work done.
Because we had to fast for our blood work and we are hungry, we head to
Denny for breakfast.
I am so weak from fasting
Ahhh! Now both plates are not just for me. One is for
Michèle too.
After such a nice breakfast, we go to Odette's place to help her moving
boxes.
Once both cars are full, we head to Toronto.
Our next stop is in Witby at the Passport Canada office to renew my
passport.
We have planned for at least one hour waiting time.
Surprise! Ten minutes later I am out and everything is done!
All I have to do is pick up my passport next Thursday.
Since we are ahead in our time, we decided to stop and check out a
campground in Toronto. It is located near the 401 highway, but it
is very quiet, cannot even hear the highway. We may have to stop
and camp here this fall or maybe next spring.
We finally made it to Alix's apartment in East York. This is a
suburb of Toronto. Why Alix's place? Odette and Onyx are
moving in with Alix. Alix is Odette son and Onyx brother.
After all the boxes are in the apartment, we start to build the book
case.
It is a very hot day and inside the apartment is even hotter.
Once we are done with the book case we decided not to wait for Alix and
head back home right away.
Thursday morning we are at the dentist again. I have an
appointment so they present to me all the options available to me
regarding my teeth. They present the first option. It is
rebuilding the top 10 front teeth for a reasonable cost of
$12,450.00. Option two is for just the front 4 teeth for a
cheaper $4,500.00. By the way, my coverage will only pay up to
$1,500.00 per year. They never talked about option 3 in
details. I am passing on the first two options and go for the
third option.
I am back at the dentist at 2 pm for my "option". My plan covers
up to $1,500.00. With all the work done on my 6 upper teeth and
my 5 lower teeth, plus one tooth pulled I only had to pay $500.00
from my pocket. We really have to watch what "they" have to sell
you. They want to sell you a 10,000 watts smile, now it is for
you to decide what you "really" need. You really have to be
careful and not be too quick to say yes to the "offers".
I was on the chair for about one and a half hours and I am still
frozen. The top front teeth and the lower right hand side
including the tongue. The good side is that it is all done and I
do not need to come back until next year.
Friday August 10, 2012
I picked up my new air conditioning fan this morning.
Here is the installation.
Something is still wrong with my AC??? I am going to leave it
alone and come back to it in a few days.
Since I got my tools out, I will check my skylight in the shower.
Remember when we drove from BC to Ontario, we hit some hail in
Saskatchewan. We notice since than that water accumulating
between
the two plastic part of the skylight. I think it is cracked, not
good!
First, I removed the fairing around the inside of the skylight this way
I can drain the water by drilling small holes on the first plastic part.
Next step is to check out the top part of the skylight. Sure
enough, I found a crack about one inch long.
Time for a temporary fix with silicone. I will have to contact my
insurance and see if the repair are covered.
Since I am on the roof, why not do a little inspection of the stuff up
there. I noticed that when I installed the rain gutter on the
motorhome I had some parts that are a little higher then others.
Now water accumulates and drip on the side of the motorhome. The
rain gutter are taped and siliconed in place so I now have to find a
temporary/permanent solution. A quick solution is to drill a hole
and insert a straw to allow water to drain away from the motorhome
side. If this works, I will make it better and more permanent.
A view from the roof top.
Every day we see this red cardinal. Michèle got a few nice photos
of him.
With the humidex it feels like 30 even if it is only 24 C. Some
pool time is required!
I tried something different, I fried some salmon. Not bad, but I
think white meat fish will taste better.
A busy day.
Saturday August 11, 2012
Lots of activities on the campground today.
Pony rides in the morning, horse shoe tournament in the afternoon and
a dinner of burger/hot dog with a corn on the cub and fries for only
$5. The evening dance theme is western.
I took a little walk around the campground, here are some photos.
A "do nothing" day. I excel at this type of day. I still do some
work, like updating our web page.
We had a cloudy day and the clouds were big and ugly, but nothing fell
from the sky!
Sunday August 12, 2012
We went for some grocery shopping in the early afternoon and came back
to watch the closing ceremonies of the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
This year we watched more of the games. I think the London games
were a complete success.
Monday August 13, 2012
Michèle is taking it easy and reads in bed until late in the
morning. I am going for a bicycle ride this morning. I left
at 9:30 am.
Photos of some of the stuff I saw this morning.
At one point in my ride I come very close to the canal that joins
Wheller's bay to lake Ontario. This is one of the two swings
bridges located along the canal. This bridge allows sail boat to
head out on the lake. I use a small shareware program to put two
photos together. Here is the result.
The bridge swings out of the way for the boats to go
by. Of course each boat has to pay a few to the Park
Canada employee.
After lunch, I continue with our change of address because of our
"move".
I am almost done Heehaw.
With all the very hot weather we are having we go through a lot of
water. I try to get every last drop of water out of the bottle.
A very good day.
Tuesday August 14, 2012
Today is Optometrists time. We both have an appointment since we have
not had one for our eyes in the last two years.
All goes well. I do not need new glasses. Michèle does
need some because her sight a dropped just enough to require new
glasses. The optometrist found some small blood vessel leaking in
the back on Michèle's eye. Nothing to worry about, but she needs
to do more tests next week. She also wrote a note to our family
doctor to check some more stuff. All this is just preventive
measure, nothing to worry about.
Wednesday August 15, 2012
Do not adjust your computer. The photos are in black and
white. Our mistake with the selection on the camera.
Off to the doctor this morning. I go in first, the doctor reviews
all my results from my blood work and confirms that every thing is very
good. The only thing needed are to loose a few pounds and to get
another blood sample to check for prostate stuff. Just some
preventive tests.
Michèle is next. Like me, every thing is very good, but a little
bit of pain on the top of her left foot. The doctor ordered some
X-ray of her foot. Down below is our family doctor
practice. No problems having and appointment. Right now it
is very easy to get a family doctor in the Trenton/Belleville
area. We are very happy with our doctor.
What a funny clock for a waiting room!
Right after the doctor's appointment we head to the X-ray place.
Waiting time, 5 minutes, we were the only one in there!
As I was telling you, the doctor recommended a blood work done as a
preventive measure of prostate cancer. Come with being over 50
years old! 20 minutes later, I am out of the building. The
doctor will only contact me if there is a problem.
After all this "hard work", we drove through Belleville's construction
to get home.
But first, with all the good news we got this morning, we treat
ourselves with lunch at the mall.
Before we head home, we stop at Odette's place to see if she is ready
for more boxes to be moved. Since we have to drive to Scarborough
to pick up my passport, why not drive 20 km and drop off some boxes at
Odette new place.
Until next time.
Life is good...
